Effective altruism in Japan

This fits under Promoting effective altruism.

Upshot

As of late 2018, Japan has absolutely no community around effective altruism. Peter Singer’s book/TED talk seem to have been translated into the language, but that is the extent to which EA is known.

A partial (and very rough) translation of the EA Wikipedia article is available here.

There is also a possibly nascent Tokyo Less Wrong meetup group.

Peter Singer’s book The Most Good You Can Do was translated into Japanese and published in December 2015.

Nick Bostrom’s book Superintelligence was translated into Japanese and published in November 2017.

The Future of Life Institute team has Kazue Evans, who helps with “AI safety and nuclear translation and outreach efforts for Japan AI community”.1

See also the Tokyo AI & Society Symposium, which had an AI safety presentation.2
